Fishing off the beach in Spain is frowned upon during the bathing season, and fishing in harbours. You can quite easily get your collar felt for indulging. In areas with minimal tides, such as Cala Galdana, Menorca, float tubes make it easy to tempt mullet with a static fly.

These mullet fight hard, and if you wish to eat one you've caught, you'll be in for a treat.They go like a train and should you wish to eat one you've caught in the sea, I'd heartily recommend it. My Spanish friends find it amusing that I enjoy eating mullet. They call me "El pato, rey de los lisos," which translates to "The duck, king of the smooth ones." Although they choose to call a mullet "smooth," I find it as delicious as Sea Bass (Lubina). Quite why they choose to call a mullet "smooth" is beyond me.......They won't eat it either although IMHO
Mullet is easy to fillet with hardly any pin bones. For a delightful meal, marinate it with salt and onion in a bowl for a few hours, then shallow fry it in a bit of flour. Serve it up with capsicum and potato fritters and a spot of Menorcan cheese. Mmmmmmmmm!!!
